Goggles: the part people get wrong

One eye or two? Both exist in the films, so either is accurate, but the failure mode is identical: a goggle strap that pinches, slips, or warps the strap line in photos. Build the goggle on a wide soft headband instead of an elastic band, keep the lens centered over the eye, and test it under a flashlight before party night, because a rim that glares white in flash photos hides the eye behind it. Posing: keep it physical, keep it low

Minions are physical characters, so the photos that work are the ones where your body is doing something.

• The stagger. Feet wide, knees bent, torso tilted ten degrees off vertical, hands out for balance. It reads as comic clumsiness on camera.
• The chin-up shrug. Shoulders raised to the ears, palms up, eyebrows high. The most reliably cute frame for a short person in a group photo.
• The lean-back cackle. Head tipped back, mouth open. Shoot it as a burst, because the difference between funny and alarming is one frame of timing.
• The run frame. Photographer kneels, you jog past at three quarters speed. Motion blur in the arms is fine; blur in the face is the fail state.

Shoot from slightly below your own eye level for most of these. The upward angle exaggerates the pill shape and makes the goggle the star of the frame, which is the whole design.

Family and group variants

A minion costume is the rare theme that scales from toddler to grandparent without anyone feeling left out. Common mistakes

• Yellow on the whole face. Paint around the eyes and forehead only; a full yellow face eats your features in flash photos.
• Suspender-less denim. Jeans alone read as casual Friday. The straps are a third of the recognition.
• Goggle over one closed eye. Keep both eyes open and animated; the squint version photographs as a wince.
• Going to an outdoor party at noon in full fleece. The costume is warm. Plan layers you can shed without losing the straps.
