For photographs, the working poses are crossed in front of the chest, one raised and one lowered in a guarded stance, and both held low at the sides in a relaxed walk. The rooftop lighting recipe

You will probably shoot on a balcony or a street, not an actual roof, and the recipe is the same. Work with two sources: a cool blue-white light at camera left to model the face, and any warm city light, a street lamp, a window, behind you for separation. The cool key keeps the suit black instead of muddy gray, and the warm backlight paints the blue accents. Phone flashlight held high with a piece of white paper taped over it beats a bare flash; the bare flash flattens the emblem into a sticker. What goes wrong

• A suit that is navy, not black. Under warm party light, navy reads as a security uniform. Buy true black and let the blue live in the emblem.
• Sticks left in the car. Half the costume's photo value is in your hands. If the venue bans them, photograph with them before you go.
• Mask adhesive on the brows. A mask glued to skin shifts mid-party; build it on glasses frames instead.
• Posing in a bright hallway. Without darkness or city light, the whole premise collapses. Find one dim corner and own it.
