The cape is the costume

Everything else is supporting cast. The decisions that matter:

The wolf question

Duos work: a partner in a grey hooded jacket with simple ears plays the wolf without any costume-shop purchase, and the two-shot is you walking ahead, them trailing three steps back at the frame edge. What goes wrong

• Pumpkin red. Orange-leaning fabric doubles down under golden-hour light. Test in daylight.
• Satin glare. Speckled highlights on cheap satin flatten every photo. Matte fabrics or velvet.
• Hood collapse. A soft hood with no structure folds flat and reads as a scarf. Gather or roll the hood's edge so it stands.
• The mud line. Floor-length capes end the night with a hem stripe. Hem it two inches off the ground for outdoor venues.
• Prop creep. Basket plus flowers plus lantern plus wolf ears on you: pick two.
• Overcast flatness. A fully grey sky kills the backlit hood shot. Shoot the swirl and basket frames instead, and save the glow shot for a break in the cloud.
